This service is provided by METER IT, a Swiss company registered under number CHE-442.822.091 in the central Swiss register of registered companies (Zefix).

Afterlife Vault is a private digital storage and delivery service. It is not a notarial service, a legal fiduciary, an estate planning service, an attorney, or a substitute for professional legal advice. The automated release of your vault to your beneficiaries does not constitute a legally binding transfer of assets, a will, a testament, or any instrument recognised under inheritance law in any jurisdiction.

If you wish to make legally enforceable arrangements regarding the distribution of your estate, you should consult a qualified legal professional in your jurisdiction.

We store your files on encrypted infrastructure and perform regular automated backups following current industry best practices. Backups are verified and retained across multiple storage locations to minimise the risk of data loss.

While we make every reasonable effort to ensure the availability and integrity of your data, no storage system can guarantee absolute protection against all possible failure scenarios. We recommend that you maintain independent copies of any files whose loss would be irreplaceable.

You are solely responsible for ensuring that the contact details of your beneficiaries — in particular their email addresses — are accurate and kept up to date. Afterlife Vault delivers release notifications exclusively to the email addresses you have provided.

If a beneficiary's email address is incorrect, has changed, or is no longer active at the time of release, that beneficiary will not receive their notification and may be unable to access the files assigned to them. We are not liable for failed deliveries resulting from inaccurate or outdated contact information.

We strongly recommend reviewing and updating your beneficiary list regularly.

The automated release mechanism (the "dead man's switch") is triggered solely by the absence of a check-in within your configured interval, followed by the expiry of a grace period. Afterlife Vault does not verify the cause of a missed check-in, does not consult any external authority, and does not independently confirm a user's death or incapacity before initiating a release.

You acknowledge that the switch may be triggered by circumstances other than death, including extended periods of illness, travel, or loss of access to your account. It is your responsibility to configure an interval appropriate to your circumstances and to ensure that you are able to check in reliably.

You can preview what a beneficiary will receive by adding an entry marked "This is me" (using your own account email address) and choosing "Send test". A test sends the release email to your own address only. It does not change your account status, does not affect your check-ins, and does not notify any other beneficiary. The preview link remains valid for 48 hours.

Afterlife Vault is provided on an "as is" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we exclude all liability for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use or inability to use the service, including but not limited to loss of data, failure to deliver files to beneficiaries, or unintended release of vault contents.

Our total liability in connection with any claim arising out of or related to the service shall not exceed the amount paid by you to us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Your files are encrypted at rest using current encryption standards. Afterlife Vault staff do not access the contents of your vault, and access to encrypted content is restricted to the automated processes needed to operate the service and to deliver your files to your beneficiaries.

We do not share, sell, or disclose your files or personal information to third parties, except as required by applicable law or as necessary to operate the service (for example, cloud storage providers operating under data processing agreements).

Encryption at rest applies to the contents of your vault. Information that is needed to operate the service, such as your account email address, your beneficiaries' contact details, and check-in and release timestamps, is not part of the vault encryption.

All content you store in Afterlife Vault, including files, messages and beneficiary information, remains your property at all times. You grant us no licence beyond what is strictly necessary to store your content and to deliver it to your chosen beneficiaries as you have instructed.

We do not use your content for advertising or profiling, and we do not use it to train any artificial-intelligence or machine-learning model.

You can download your files and delete individual files or your entire account at any time. When you delete your account, your vault content is permanently deleted from our systems, and from our backups within 90 days. Deleted data cannot be recovered.

We may retain limited records where we are legally required to do so, for example payment records under statutory accounting obligations.

We process personal data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time via the support page.

The service is hosted on servers operated by METER IT in Switzerland. To operate the service we use processors for payments (Stripe) and email delivery (SMTP2GO). Some of these providers may process data outside Switzerland. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

This notice and your use of Afterlife Vault are governed by Swiss substantive law. The courts of the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection provisions of your country of residence.

We may update this legal notice from time to time to reflect changes in the service or applicable law. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. Continued use of the service after such notification constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
